Dear Friends,

You are God’s own children, present in South Mobile County.  I am so excited to be your pastor.  It is a great joy for me and I am looking forward to serving you, especially in the sacramental life of the Church.  Pope Francis stated that we must always begin our plan of evangelization with the same knowledge, “Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen, and free you.” This is the message I want to bring to Saint Philip Neri and Saint Michael.  Preaching the central message of the Gospel is at the core of what I long to do.

The responsibility of the pastor is the pastoral care of the people of God, which I promise to take very seriously.  Please feel free to speak with me about your needs and desires for our parish communities.  I want to be clear with you: my door is always open to you, day or night.  We must collaborate as to the most effective strategies for evangelization and spiritual formation. We will strengthen our community bonds so that we can be the image of Christ in South Mobile County.

The parish pastoral council and parish finance council will be extremely important advisors for me, and I look forward to working in partnership with them.   I also look forward to getting to know all the families of our parishes.  I am not great at names, so I will need your help in the beginning.  I love being with the people of God, especially sharing in their life experiences.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to share a passage from Saint Paul that seems most appropriate: “I am grateful to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me trustworthy in appointing me to the ministry. I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and an arrogant man, but I have been mercifully treated because I acted out of ignorance in my unbelief. Indeed, the grace of our Lord has been abundant, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Of these I am the foremost. But for that reason I was mercifully treated, so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example for those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life. To the king of ages, incorruptible, invisible, the only God, honor and glory forever and ever. Amen (1 Tim 1:12-17).”

Please pray for me as I begin this sacred ministry.  I have already been praying for you.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

In the Love of Christ,

Father Dan

Pastor of Saint Philip Neri, Belle Fontaine, and St. Michael, Heron Bay
